[page]32[/page] from the same reagent, and in as nearly the same manner as possible, but the resulting zinc salt was deep red. The greater part of this zinc salt was added to a solution of sodium hydrate (36 grams of sodium hydrate and 150cc water) and placed under a receiver [?were?] weight to prevent the action of the carbon dioxide of the air upon the solution. The precipitate was filtered and washed with water containing a little sodium hydrate and then cold water. It (the precipitate) was then dissolved in concentrated hydrochloric acid and the brownish crystals of nitrose-[?beta?]-naphthol filtered, washed and dried.
