13. obtain the fruit by very careful cultivation, by the abundant supply of food, and an avoidance of all disturbing causes, atmospheric oxygen &c. The sexual phase of the plant agrees with that of Eurotium. The first process in its development is the twisting of the end of a branch of the mycelium : this soon coils up forming a hollow spiral the carpogonium : (Pl. III fig 2-a : after De Bary).
