20. and oospherical -- i.e. susceptible of fertilization. It appears, also that fertilization is resorted to only occasionally, but the fact that the plant does so resort to fertilization, when for generations it is abundantly reproduced by the asexual method, is strong evidence of the necessity of the process of fertilization for renewing, if only at intervals the energy of the organisms concerned.
