50. antheridium is filled with cells containing bi-ciliate spermatozoids. The fertile branch has a spreading, umbrella-like receptacle, composed of from 7 to 9 branches (always an odd number): this also is mounted on a stalk - though it is short at first. on the under side are situated the archegonia, opening downward, by a long narrow neck, leading from the oosphere.
