65. the cell when fertilized: of course this is not always so, but usually there is a more or less elongated style and the opening leading through it from the stigma to the ovary is entirely too small for a pollen grain to pass through. What is to be done? Now we realize the perfection with which this little grain is constructed: a long slender tube is sent out from the pollen grain, passes through this tubular opening
