120 July 15, 1918. Dear Friend Wife,- While I wait for the telephone to bring me the communique, tonight much delayed, I'll see if I can scribble something that will divert you for a few minutes. The war has begun again, the Boche having attacked on a front of eighty kilometres in the region to the north. Reports we have so far are very meager but from them I gather that the advance of the first day was in only a few narrow spots and not far in depth. We are told that the ground the enemy at first took from the Americans was at once retained by counter-attack. Concerning the outcome of this push I feel even more confident than I did concerning the others. American troops are in this in considerable numbers
