I am guarding press headquarters today while practically all the rest of the force is away. In our sector things are very quiet. All interest in focused on the happenings to the north, where the enemy is in the third day of his fifth great effort of the year. The splendid success with which the allied troops have opposed him seems to assure a victory this time greater than any previous. American troops are in it as never before and are everywhere fighting gloriously. An important French officer who watched one of our units hurl the Germans back by a brilliant counter-attack said that our infantry was the best in the world. I hope he is right, for with the best troops, here
