windows I saw a far-off flash in the sky and then more.  Long afterward came the sound of cannon firing and shells bursting.  Somewhere in the distance the anti-aircraft guns were worrying the Hun.  I thought what a fantastic thing it was, how far beyond the bounds of what a few years ago we should have believed we should ever see.  It is something to see the marvels of this war.
We have learned that the Germans sent their crack division against the Americans in their attack two days ago, intending to destroy the spirit that our victories had given to all our troops.  Instead of crushing our outfit the Germans got badly chewed up and didn't gain a foot.  Oh, that we had millions!  But our day is coming if our allies hold out. They are doing nobly. It appears that the latest Boche drive has been stopped with considerably less loss of ground than previous drives cost.
I'm going now, honey, after I kiss you. All the wonderful passion of  love I put into my lips as they cling to yours. I love you!
