We walked the tow path for a little while, then returned to the road and followed its winding to a village on the hilltop, from where we had a splendid view of the beautiful valley and the distant town with the cathedral rising bold and dominating in the center. After exploring the town or village on the hill we returned. Coming through streets that were new to us we passed an old wall and learned from the inscription on it that parts of it had been built in the fourth century A.G.D. So we are not exactly pioneers here. Last night just after I had gone to sleep the "Archies" here-abouts opened fire on Hun raiders. After I got awake I could hear very plainly the "zoom-ah-zoom-ah-zoom" of the motors on the Gothas. The shells burst pretty briskly overhead for ten or fifteen minutes and I could hear fragments and shrapnel raining down on roofs and in the
