love you, but at this distance! It's very unsatisfying at times. I want to jerk your nose, and muss up your precious hair, and whine about your whiskers being so scratchy. Lots of things I want to do and can't. I never did dare to love you as much as I want to. I wanted to hold your head on my breast and love you in a thousand different ways that kept popping into my head, but I was so very afraid to try. You have said I am independent to an alarming extent. And I am sure you are right. But so are you, my own. I tried to tell you something of this that first night at Cottey, when I told you how deep would be my love for you, but I couldn't say what I wanted to. And always in Washington - well there may have been one or two
