the point of squeezing out a few tears, at the thought of my being so far and so long separated from such beauty. I assured her it was all right because I didn't care anything about you anyway. She thinks you ought to be in France. So do I. I think so especially since Uncle Sam has got so busy hauling troops and ammunition that he can't bring your letters. It is now twelve days since I received any letters from you and thirty-four since the day you wrote the latest I have seen. It is becoming the chief subject of comment that the mails are being held, but when the reason is such a vital and necessary one we can't very well kick. If doing without our letters for a time will hasten the end of the war, we can stand it. But that is a greater hardship than a great many others. I begin to feel as if I would have to shout "Are you there?" just to make sure that you are there. I'd do it by cable if I had the slightest idea where a message could find you. As it is, I reckon
