104 Saturday night, June 22, 1918 My Dearest, - This afternoon I answered some letters that have been lying about untouched for a long time. Since I fell in love with my wife I've been neglecting other folks to write to her. Now that I have them answered I am sending you Fred's letter and Malen's. You may enjoy seeing them. The kid's naïve, rambling stuff is amusing, but it shows what a fine heart he has. For solace against the adversity of getting no mail from you I have just been reading some of your old letters. That helps. This day has been dull, dull, dull. Everybody went away, leaving me in charge. I was restless and wanted to take a hike, but didn't dare stray far from the telephone.
