The best I could do was stroll in the garden looking at the roses. It is full of them now. There must be at least half a dozen different kinds, each with its individual beauties of form and color and scent. I wanted so much to show them to you and to have you join me in sniffing at them. And the east wall is a mass of scarlet splotches where the currants have turned ripe. What art there is in a French garden that even currants should be trained up where their color will contribute to the beauty of the place! The peas that I planted a few weeks ago are big and luxuriant. They are in bloom now and promising to lessen our mess bills. So too with the beans and head lettuce and potatoes and I know nor what all else. It is a practical as well as decorative garden. I think when we get wealthy we ought to buy this place to come to when we want to have a very quiet, comfortable, lazy vacation. What say? In describing my new abode I overlooked one feature that would appeal to you. It is a grey wolf skin that lies beside my bed. I thought of the oversight last night when the fur tickled my bare toes as I was about to hop into the regal alcove. Also, I neglected to say that the soft pad on top of the bed is in blue silk instead of the usual crimson. I think I like the change. Delancy came back tonight from Paris and told us what a good time he had had seeing the shows and restuarants. Lawdy, I might just as well never have been there for all
