it would not have been possible for anyone to approach within reach of me. More than half of my soreness was at myself for being so uncontrollable. I haven't any business to allow delay in the mail to get to me to impressively. You are mostly to blame, though, you're responsible for this powerful influence that makes my happiness so largely dependent on hearing from you. I wish I could stand seventeen days of silence without getting downhearted, but I can't - or at least couldn't this time - that's all there is to it. You're not the only member of the family whose love is an unmanageable thing. The letters arrived just before tea time. I was too eager for them to think of saving any of them for a minute. As fast as I could slit the envelopes I skimmed through them, tasting their flavor, so to say, along with the bread and butter and apricot jam. Later, I devoured them in more leisurely fashion. So I have read the whole seven twice already (yet) and now I'm licking my chips and looking around for more. The result is that I'm up a hundred points in good nature. I joined in the song and cheer service after dinner with real enthusiasm. I suddenly remembered to tell Martine that the chocolate soufflé she had made on my order for lunch was exquisite.
