LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS LULAC GLANCES March 26 1969 P.O BOX 242 DAVENPORT, IOWA GOVERNOR RAY PROCLAIMS "LULAC WEEK" IN IOWA!!!!! On Saturday, March 15, 1969, LULAC State Director of Iowa, John Terronez and Rudy Avila, President of LULAC Coucil #306, Des Moines, met with Governor Robert Ray who proclaimed the period of February 16 - 22 as LULAC WEEK IN IOWA. Also present were the following LULAC'ers Mrs. John Terronez, Alex Pabon, who is District Director #1, Mrs. Alex Pabon, Vince Bejarno, Carmen Cepeda and other members of LULAC # 306. FEBRUARY 2, 1969 ... LULAC State Director John Terronez, John Vasquez, who is District Director #2, Henry Vargas, President of LULAC #10 visited LULAC Council #304, Fort Madison, Iowa. Purpose of the visit was to bring our Brother and Sister LULAC'ers up to date on what is happening in LULAC Iowa. After a pep talk by District Director Vasquez, LULAC #304 plans to reactivate Jr. LULAC's in Fort Madison. LUPE MENDEZ, President of Relations Commissions of Fort Madison also reports that Larry Bolanos has been appointed to the City Human Relations Commission of Fort Madison. The Boycott on California Table Grapes was also discussed. FEBRUARY 10, 1969 ... LULAC Council #10 celebrated its tenth year in LULAC by having a Dinner and Dance. The main speaker was Professor Jones of Iowa University. Present to observed this event were the State Director and his wife, Past State Director Joe Gomez, LULAC members of Council #10. A delegation of LULAC'S from Fort Madison were also on hand for the festivities. Representatives from the City of Davenport, G. I. Forum, and other Community Organizations were also present. Henry Vargas was presented with a ring for his hard work and leadership in LULAC over the past ten years. Mrs. Henry (Lucy) Vargas was also honored with a bouquet of flowers from members of LULAC Council #10. President Vargas also reports that Salvador Lopez has been appointed to serve on the Davenport Housing Committee for the Aged. Also, John Vasquez has been appointed to serve on the Planning Committee for the United Community Services of Davenport. The LULAC Clubroom was also the recent site for a Police Community Relations Meeting. MARCH LULAC NATIONAL SUPREME COUNCIL MEETING .......... March 6, 7, 8, 1969 at the Woodruff Hotel, Joliet, Illinois, National President, Roberto Ornelas, opened the meeting. Belen Robles, National Secretary, read the minutes of previous meeting held in Washington, D.C. States represented were: Illinios, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, California and Washington D.C. Also present were immediate Past National President Judge Alfred Hernandez, National Business Manager David Adame, National Vice President Joe Pancheco, Narcisa Espinoza, who is 2nd National Vice President, and National Legal Adviso, Manual Lopez, and Moe Sanchez who is National Director of Publicity. George Royball, Executive Director of SER urged Midwest to try harder to get SER to the Midwest. This will be discussed at the Midwest Conference in April. A closed session was held on Jr. LULAC with the result that the Jr. LULAC National President will now have a vote on the Supreme ......Continued..........
