IOWA STATE SUPREME COUNCIL MEETING March 7, 1970, Ft. Madison, Iowa ------ Held at Latin American Club Delegates attended from Desmoines Council #306, Ft. Madison Council #304 and Davenport Council #10. Some revisions of the State scholarship program were made at the State Supreme Council Meeting. They included that the scholarship be open to any resident of Iowa of Latin American descent or to any immediate family of a Iowa LULAC member. That all applications be submitted by the scholarship chairman to Iowa State University at Ames or State University of Iowa at Iowa City for judging. The students applying for the scholarship must be accepted at an accredited college or university. The requirements as revised will be available at the State Convention. State Director John Terronez suggested that each council appoint one member to a committee to revise our State Constitution for presentation at the State Convention. That we include Vice Presidents of Councils as voting members of the Supreme Council. Special guests at the Supreme Council meeting were Margaret Murphy, Director of the Muscatine Migrant Worker Council; Julio Gonzalez, Chairman of the Muscatine Migrant Council (OEO); Sister Irene Munoz of Muscatine and Joe Juarez a community organizaer for the Muscatine Migrant Council. Israel Valdez of the Small Business Administration was our guest speaker. He explained the various loan programs sponsored by the SBA and how Mexican Americans have used the SBA successfully in starting up businesses in the southwest. John Terronez announced that he would finish out his term but would be leaving Davenport and Iowa to work as a field representative for the Community Relations Service, a branch of the U.S. Department of Justice. Agrand finale of the Supreme Council was a dance that evening with the music of LOS REALES. o))((o
