I O W A L U L A C G L A N C E S Bill Rocha, Lulac State Director 1117 Walnut Street West Des Moines, Iowa THE THIRTEENTH ANNUAL LULAC CONVENTION FOR THE STATE OF IOWA was held at the CLAYTON HOUSE on JUNE 6, 1970 in DAVENPORT, IOWA. The convention was opened by State Director John Terronez, Davenport. Anita Mosqueda of Des Moines read the Lulac prayer, followed by John Vasquez of Davenport leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The welcome address was given by Humberto Jimenez, President of Council 10, Davenport. State Secretary Ila Plasencia of West Des Moines read the minutes of the last State Convention. They were approved with the following correction: Larry Bolanos, Council 304, Fort Madison, Iowa, was appointed to the Human Rights Commission. Motion made by Felix Sanchez, Fort Madison; seconded by Humberto Jimenez, Davenport. The minutes of the Iowa Supreme Council meeting held in Fort Madison were also read and approved. State Director Terronez introduced Mr. Joe Juarez, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan, now from Muscatine, Iowa, who gave a brief resume of the organization known as the "RAZA MOVEMENT." Mr. Juarez said that the title of the movement is used as a means of identification and that it represents several organizations. Mr. Juarez answered a few questions of the assembly and stated that he would be in our respective cities later in the year. However,, he did point out that he was very pleased with the open meeting held in Davenport and the hearings of the Mexican-American. The following committees were appointed: RULES: Felix Sanchez, Jim Briseno, Jesse Ramirez CREDENTIALS: Lupe Pabon, Joan Lopez, Tinni Mendez
