sometimes I wondered who was directing whom. She kept me on track that the purpose of our program was to serve the needs of La Raza. As a Job Developer Mary instinctively knew how to deal with personnel managers. She was assertive and persuasive and dealt with managers on a personal level. She won their respect because of her determination to serve her clients and the manager's employment needs. She helped many people get jobs. Mary never lost sight of equality and justice for all and was given an award by the Chicano-Indian American Cultural Center and the University of Iowa. Throughout her life she was always involved in helping others but did not neglect her duties as a mother and wife. She inspired her kids to get a good education. Four of them graduated from college and pursued successful careers. All of them have distinguished themselves by leading a good life. She herself at the age of 56 received her GED, and at the age of 60 she received her Associate of Liberal Arts Degree from Palmer
