We have people in government departments, it seems to me that we can pool their knowledge of programs and come up with some federal assistance or private money to launch such a venture at the outset. I think now is the time to set our sights high and give priority to a nationwide newspaper which will solve the problem of the lack of attention to our needs by the mass media, provide some of our newspaper businessmen a chance to expand through incorporation and provide jobs, and educate our people and others to our needs and aspirations. This venture would be controlled by Chicanos, staffed by Chicanos, to benefit Chicanos.. This then is the lofty goal that Columnas is striving for on a regional basis : to reach a wide range distribution throughout the midwest among La Raza and act as a center of a communication network which will eventually lead to the formation of truly national Chicano newspaper.
