I drove down to Juan [Cadenas?] house and from there we were to drive to Des Moines down to meet some other Chicano activists to engage in a lobbying effort for the passage of legislation establishing a Spanish Speaking Commission. When I got to Juan's house as usual he wasn't quite ready. His wife Marta was cooking breakfast and at their invitation I joined them at the table. He commenced telling me about a slight change in our plans. Juan was Director of the Muscatine Migrant Committee, a health project, serving the health needs of migrant workers who came to the area to pick tomatoes for growers who had contacts
