The following stores are on our selective buying list! Woolworths Allens Inc. The Palms Rashids Rexall Drugs Fuller Brush Co. Our membership continues to grow... and we hope to keep it doing just that ! Have you joined? Every American is important in this struggle for equal rights for all... just as its outcome is important to all of America ! YOU are needed ..., so join, today, and become an active soldier in the battle for civil rights ! BRANCH MEETING! When: Monday, November 18, 1963 Where: Aquinas High School Time: 7:30 PM All members are requested to attend .. and the public is welcome! In order to more effectively break down the barrier of communication which is so evident in our community, between the citizen majority and the minorities, our branch has begun a program of 'Home Visits' which has proven successful in a number of other cities and towns. In this program, a Negro couple or family plays the role of host to several white couples or persons who are interested in trying to find out, for themselves and through personal contact, just how Negroes feel about the racial situation, today ... and, also, about those experiences which have led to this attitude. Without a doubt, ideas will vary from home to home, because as individuals, these people have all had different experiences. All persons who wish to participate, are asked to contract either Mr. W.R. Monroe or Father J. Janssen at St. Joseph's Parish. Mr. Monroe's phone is listed in the directory. Persons wishing to help on the various committees should submit their names at the next branch meeting. Many people are working, now, but there are vacancies which still must be filled. The Labor and Industry Committee is in the process of preparing a questionaire which will be distributed among members of the minority groups in this area, in order that a more complete picture of past and present of the employment situation may be obtained. you are asked to cooperate with the members of this committee in the carrying out of this project. The Evening Democrat gave us excellent coverage on our march and rally. This was greatly appreciated. We are certain, too, that everyone enjoyed the editorials which appeared before and after the events. Joe Malkins of radio station KOKX... in Keokuk, Iowa , also gave us very good coverage. Thanks must go to him too! As the river seeks... and will find the sea. so . we go forward in our quest for equal opportunity and equal rights. Holding, always, that the love of God and, therefore, non-violence are all important weapons..., we shall win those goals we seek ! University of Iowa Libraries. Iowa Women's Archives
