Fort Madison Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People OFFICIAL NOTICE, ANNUAL MEETING, DECEMBER 10, 1964 Fort Madison Iowa 52627 Dear Member: The annual meeting of the Fort Madison Branch, NAACP will be held at the Fort Madison City Hall, Avenue E and 8th Street, December 20, 1964 at 5:30 PM. At this meeting, there will be an annual report on the officers and members of the Executive Committee, after which, there will be an election of officers and members of the Executive Committee. All members whose memberships are paid thirty days prior to this meeting, or transferred from the National Office are eligible to vote and be elected to office. Bring this notice or your membership card with you for identification. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or the NAACP as it is popularly known, is an interracial, interfaith, nonpartisan, social action organization. It was organized in 1909 for the purpose of eliminating racial discrimination and segregation against Negroes and other minority groups, and to secure first class citizenship status for Negroes. It is one of the oldest and most effective civil rights organizations in the United States. The objectives of the NAACP, as stated in the certificate of incorporation are as follows: "Voluntarily to promote equality of rights and eradicate caste and race prejudice among the citizens of the US; to advance the interest of colored citizens; to secure for them impartial suffrage; and to increase their opportunities for securing justice in the courts, education for their children, employment according to their ability and complete equality before the law." Members are reminded that there is a membership drive underway, at this time, and it is the responsibility of each of us to try and get new members, How about you/? Have you gotten at least one new membership? Youth Council members are reminded to attend annual meeting of the Branch, also! THERE WILL BE A SUGGESTION BOX AT EVERY MEETING ! Members are asked to submit their ideas in writing so that by utilizing suggestions of everyone, we will be able to revitalize our program. Let us hear from you!
