-3- WRITE LETTERS TO YOUR LEGISLATORS THEM KNOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE FOLLOWING BILLS PASSED DURING THIS SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE These are very important!!! House File 317 Bills having to do with standards for migrant labor camps. ( A letter could also be written to Senator Stanley about this bill) Senate File 542 A comprehensive bill to strengthen the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. House File 198 Bill stating that Directors of Human Rights Commission should be a member of Civil Service Commissions as a non-voting member. WRITE TO THE GOVERNOR, asking that he .... Take a serious and studied look at the School situation in Waterloo, and use his influence to see that a Committee of Legislators goes to that city so the situation might be effectively resolved. This matter is URGENT! Consider persons who have been actively involved in the field of Civil Rights when he goes to fill the vacancies which will come up in June. On Sunday, April 27, 1969, the Burlington, Iowa, NAACP will hold their annual “Around The World Festival”. It will start at 3PM and last until 6 in the Banquet Room of the Memorial Auditorium. There will be foods, entertainment and exhibits. Tickets are $1.00. Contributions may be sent to: Mrs. Geraldine Brown - General Chairman 817 South Gertrude Burlington, Iowa Winner of the CIC 1969 – PACEM IN TERRIS, Peace and Freedom Award is Saul David Alinsky. The awards Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 13th in the Gold Room of the Hotel Blackhawk at 7PM. The quotations which are used in this Newsletter are picked for their “thought-provoking” qualities and it is understood that interpretations will vary, because they will depend upon the individual. It has often been pointed out, that the biggest barrier in the improvement of inter-group relations, is the lack of communication. Getting “hung-up” with personal differences and idiosyncrasies would serve no useful purpose. The cause of human dignity and social justice for all men, stands far above the individual and his personal ambitions and feeling for “self”.
