Fort Madison, Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NEWSLETTER MAY 15, 1969 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING!!! SUNDAY - MAY 18, 1969 - 5:30 PM COUNCIL ROOM - CITY HALL VERY IMPORTANT!!! REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING!!! SUNDAY - MAY 18, 1969 - 6:30 PM COUNCIL ROOM - CITY HALL The first Newsletter of the Fort Madison, Branch, was distributed in May of 1963. At first, it was sent out, several times each month and since becoming a monthly publication, it has been mailed every month but three. As we start this, our seventh year, we hope to make this a more informative and serviceable publication, than ever before. We have tried to "tell it like it is" and have stirven to do somewhat as Frederick Douglass did in his NORTH STAR. Of this, he said,... "While advocating your rights, the North Star will strive to throw light on your duties: while it will not fail to make know your virtues, it will not shun to discover your faults. To be faithful to our foes, it must be faithful to ourselves, in all things." Don't forget,...the Newsletter is a project of this branch, and it needs your support, if it is to continue. The date for the appearance of Julian Bond was changed because of an error on the part of the American Program Bureau in the planning of his itinerary. At this time, Mr. Bond is scheduled to appear at the Fort Madison Junior High School on June 14th at 7PM. Tickets with the earlier date on them, will still be used. DON'T BUY CALIFORNIA TABLE GRAPES!!! "Non-Violence Forces One To Be Creative" - by Cesar Chavez "Many people feel that an organization that uses non-violent methods to reach its objectives must continue winning victories one after the other, in order to remain non-violent. It that be the case, then a lot of efforts have been miserable failures. There is a great deal more involved than victories. University of Iowa Libraries. Iowa Women's Archives
