Let us gather in sanctuaries dedicated to worship and in homes blessed by family affection to express our gratitude for the glorious gifts of God; and let us earnestly and humbly pray that He will continue to guide and sustain us in the great unfinished tasks of achieving peace, justice and understanding among all men." John F. Kennedy 1963 Thanksgiving Proclamation EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING! ! ! 5:30 PM - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1969 CITY HALL NOTICE! ! ! Effective, January 1, 1970, the new minimum annual membership fee will be $4.00 a year, while the minimum price for a membership that includes Crisis magazine, will be $6.00. The minimum youth membership for persons under 17 will be $1.00; between the ages of 17 and 21, $2.00, and for those over 21, $4.00. This is the first increase in Naacp dues since 1948. In all other national organizations, the fees for membership and the prices for their publications have been raised. Some organizations which oppose the NAACP and the whole program of civil rights for all Americans, have set their membership fee at $2.00 a month! ! ! Remember, the NAACP is still the biggest civil rights organization in the nation! ! ! The Iowa State Conference of the NAACP Branches, was held in Ottumwa, Iowa, at the Holiday Inn, October 17, 18 and 19th. Having hosted the Conference, before, we are aware of the many and difficult problems which are faced in smaller Iowa communities. Ottumwa's NAACP and its Branch President, Mr. Virgil Thompson can be very proud of the fine job they did. To many of us, it was one of the most relevant conferences we have had the opportunity to attend. The next State Conference will be held in Des Moines, Iowa. "It is true that the ultimate solution will not be found in laws, but in the dark places of men's minds and hearts. But it is also true that laws are the manifest of the national purpose, and when government is unwilling, or unable, to provide them, there is no standard to which the wise University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa Women's Archives
