Fort Madison Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored people DECEMBER 17, 1970 Fort Madison, Iowa 53627 [hand drawing] "... and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well.. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless us, Every One ! " - Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol" May the Peace and Joy, known best at Christmas encourage all of us to strive, as never before, to see that this feeling is enjoyed by all men, regardless of their race, color, creed or national origin. Dear Member; The annual meeting of the Fort Madison, Branch, NAACP, will be held at City Hall in the Council Room, December 20 1970 at 6:30PM. At this meeting there will be an annual report of officers and members of the Executive Committee, after which, there will be an election of officers and members of the Executive Committee. All members who memberships are paid thirty days prior to this meeting, or transferred from the National Office are eligible to vote and be elected to office. Please plan to be present. Cordially, [actual signature] Virginia Harper Branch Administrative Secretary The report of the Nominating Committee, is enclosed on an attached sheet. All persons whose names were presented by the Committee, as well as those who were nominated by petition, have consented to serve in the designated capacity, for the next two years. In so doing, they have committed themselves to a period of working to attain the goals of the NAACP. This Branch has had many people who have worked in various capacities, and who have worked well. There are others who have worked consistently, until they left the community. None of us, today, are in the position of being able to say that we are doing ALL that we can do, and NONE of us can afford to sit back and criticize any other member who has worked. Personality clashes are of small importance when measured against the far greater stakes involved in attaining "HUMAN DIGNITY for ALL MEN" We are all in this, together.... and win or lose.. all the world will feel the effect of the struggle for civil rights, as it goes.... in America! The challenge belongs to all of you... not a "chosen" few " "Blessed are they who were not satisfied to let well enough alone. All the progress the world.
