The Branch Administrative Secretary and the members of the Membership Committee have made a honest and sincere effort to see that membership cards are received by members in the shortest possible time. If there are any complaints, we would like to hear them, as well as an constructive suggestions as to how we might improve our system. We do ask that you take into consideration, the following facts:...Often as period of several days exists between the time the membership money is given to the solicitor and the time the membership is handed over to the Membership Committee or the Branch Administrative Secretary; there are times when we are out of $2.00 membership cards and must wait until we get some before we can send the cards out; there are various organizational tasks which must be taken care of, continuously which are not large, but are time consuming; and last but by no means least, most of us hold full time jobs which we must continue to hold if we are to effectively work in the area of civil rights.

Minority group families with the same income as white families pay more for less desirable housing, according to a study by the Real Estate Research Program at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles. Mexican American families generally spent less on housing. These same statistics would be applicable in our locale.

HAVE YOU WRITTEN YOUR CONGRESSMEN? IF NOT...,DO SO, ...NOW! Urge them to pass Civil Rights legislation on the National level...and to grant adequate funds to the Civil rights Commission, here in the State Legislature of Iowa. DON'T DELAY?

Our branch is requested to help in the Southeast Missouri NAACP Summer Project, by sending a volunteer or volunteers to work in this area during the period of July 30 to September 3rd. Because the vast majority of the Negro population in the State of Missouri is concentrated in the urban areas of Kansas City and St. Louis, little attention has been paid to the next largest concentration of Negro citizens who live in Southeast Missouri, commonly referred to as the 'bootheel' section of the State. Bounded by Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee it has many of the southern characteristics of Arkansas and Tennessee and the worst of Kentucky. Little or no progress has been made in political action, school desegregation, housing and employment during the past decade. "In view of the dichotomy of our society, poverty and affluence, there is a great chasm to be filled. This can not be done by the poverty stricken because of the limitations of their substance. It must neccessarily be done by those who have something by which this chasm can be filled. The State of Missouri is one of the areas of America which suffers the darkness
