Fort Madison Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NEWSLETTER JULY 13, 1967 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 "Like the star, That shines afar, Without haste And without rest, Let each man wheel with steady sway Round the task that rules the day, And do his best." - Goethe EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING SUNDAY - JULY 16, 1967 5:30 PM - CITY HALL REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING SUNDAY - JULY 16, 1967 6:00 PM - CITY HALL Now is the time for the members of the local organization to work especially hard to institute and amke effective programs which will benefit the minority population, here! We all know that no matter how much we choose to ignore the facts, there are problems in our community which are in urgent need of our attention. However, it takes more than a few people if we are to get the job done! Executive Committee members, in particular, have committed themselves to being a cog in the organizational wheel. "A few exceptional people can emerge out of adversity and apparent hopelessness, but the tragedy of discrimination is that it provides an excuse for failure while erecting barriers to success." - Dr. Robert C. Weaver Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Secretary We sincerely appreciate the efforts of all who worked to make a success of the Fish Fry which was held on Saturday, July 8, 1967. There are always a faithful few who can be depended upon to work hard and lend their support to all of the events which the local branch decides to undertake. Funds are very important if we are to continue to be a functional unit in the National Civil Rights picture. Just as important, however, is the active participation - in some way of every member!
