-- 3 -- The members of the Entertainment and Fund Raising Committee wish to thank every one who worked so hard to make the Banquet which featured Malvin Goode of the ABC Broadcasting Company, a success. The world is moved not only by the mighty shoves of the heroes, but also by the aggregate pushes of each hard worker. All of us who met Mr. Goode and heard him, realize that he is, without a doubt, one of the finest speakers we have had the honor of hearing. Those who did not hear him, did themselves a great disservice. It is not often that one has the privilege of being in the immediate presence of a man with so much to offer..., who cares so much for all men and spends so much time giving of himself to do what he can to help bring about peace in this restless age. Those who missed his address, should not miss the opportunity to hear him, if it ever presents itself. It is an experience you will not soon forget. The members of the area news media services were conspicuous in their absence. Local radio and press members ignored the fact that one of their colleagues was in the area, and despite the fact that his visit was sponsored by the NAACP, the coverage he got in Fort Madison was by far the worst he has received in any other Iowa community which he has visited. The presence of a photographer was appreciated but it is our feeling that this was one speaker who deserved to have adequate coverage. Persons who have purchased $2.00 membership cards will be a little slow in getting them due to the amount of work which has to be done. However, we will make certain that they will get, to you, in the near future. DO YOU KNOW?...... The meaning of the following words: COMPLACENCY - Satisfaction ; (especially) self satisfaction APATHY - Lack of interest; Lack of emotion and DO YOU EVER THINK OF THESE WORDS AS THEY MIGHT APPLY TO EACH OF US? The fact that there is much complacency and apathy, in this community, in every phase of life, becomes more and more evident, everyday. This was brought even more to the fore when the statistics on the voting on Election Day, were made public It is a privilege of citizenship as well as being one of its duties, for everyone to present themselves at the Polls whenever an election is held. There is nothing for any of us to complain about, as far as the governing of this community is concerned if we sit back and let other people elect the officials, in this town. The Political Action Chairman of this Branch, Mr. Orville Woods has always been willing to see that all registered voters get to the Polls on Election Day. If it should happen that he doesn't get a chance to contact you,....then, call him or the Branch Administrative Secretary. Be responsible citizens by being concerned. IF YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE...TAKE CARE OF IT NOW! IF YOU HAVE MOVED SINCE THE LAST TIME YOU VOTED,...SEE THAT A CHANGE OF ADDRESS CARD IS FILED IN CITY HALL. NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CARE OF THESE THINGS..., DON'T WAIT UNTIL ITS TIME TO VOTE AGAIN. University of Iowa Libraries. Iowa Women's Archives
