consists of a collection of fotos of various fans, which I have picked up at odd times and intend to pass on to my grandchild when his first stf novel sells its first hundred-thousend copies. Gergen has, in his mercenary way, offered me first two cents and then three for a picture that was once taken of him. Needless to say, I have the love of an artist for my collection, and wouldn't spoil it for a tidy fortune. I just struck me that the column is nearing completion and no mention has been made of Sheldon Areas. He is - worse luck - still alive and kicking around the University. I bumped into him coming from the Health Service, where it seemed he was having his eyes tested. Why they had to be tested to find out they were bad is beyond me. Areas is so myopic that even a seeing-eye dog won't work for him at less than double the Union rates. And now its high time I quit writing. This is Friday night at eleven o'clock. I've got classes all tomorrow morning, a date tomorrow night and I've got to be at Gergen's four o'clock Sunday. (Gordy finally showed up at around 6, however -- jlg) Also, this was written under the shadow of a physics quis, which comes up Monday morning & studying for which I have neglected tonight. Grater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his physics quiz for his fan column. selah! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps I'm just a little too overenthused about the story, I've been telling everyone to look for, but I think you'd all enjoy it. The tale is "Opposites - React!" by Will Stewart, in the January and Febraury numbers of Astounding - a two-part serial. If any of you hasn't read it, do so immediately. Everything is good about it. The science angle is just like that around '38 and '39, the characterazation is good, and the whole darn thing is excellent. WANTED: The following issues of UNKNOWN in mint condition: 1939 - all but Sep and Dec 1940 - May, June, July, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec 1941 - all but Aug and Dec What do you have, and how much do you want?
