Clubnotes: MFS MEETING OF FEBRUARY 7th: This was called together in a hurry, much like many of those before this. Present were: Sam Russell, Gordon Dickson, Ollie Saari, Charlie Albertson, and John Gergen, at whose home the meeting was held. Members were supposed to have arrived at 4 in the afternoon, so some recordings we were to have made could be cut. Ollie Saari called to say that he wouldn't be able to make it until 7 or so, so we decided to wait. Ollie missed his streetcar, however, and consequently didn't get here till almost 8, and by that time it was too late to cut the discs. Members sat around and discussed the latest fanzines, Russell making degrading remarks every now and then about Gergen's "Composite Composer" in the latest [[underline]]Imagi-Music[[end underline]], while the others merely content to tear apart (figureatively) issues of VoM, LeZombie, and some of the other fanzines. Forthcoming issues of some MFS pubs were talked about, and some attempt was made to get the last issue of the Bulletin out on time. Russell smiled coyly everytime someone mentioned [[underline]]Fantasy Critic[[end underline]], promising all the time to try to work on it. Correspondence and various experiments with other fan clubs were proposed and taken apart, and then later on a quiz was read off. Some of the questions were quite good, and some were really unanswerable - such as those Ollie submitted on physics and algebraic principles.... The meeting broke up around midnight, but not until after many a fine argument or new idea brought up. The next meeting was a problem as to place until Charlie Albertson offered to finance a room at the YMCA in place of having the meeting at his home. MFS MEETING OF FEBRUARY 11th: Manse Brackney had just returned from Joliet in time to attend this meeting, and was present along with Sam Russell, Gordon Dickson, Art Osterlund, Charlie Albertson, and John Gergen. This was evidently a particularly bad night for most members, as Ollie Saari didn't show up and Arden Benson and Carl and Cliff were not there. Members sat around the table and listened while Manse detailed his trip to Joliet and Chicago, exchanged messages, and told the latest news from Illinois. Then we broke up into individual groups to discuss this and that and talk about the latest happenings. Bulletins had been passed out, and were condemned by the assemblage. Manse and Gordy retired into another room, and Art showed several designs he'd done for our MFS stationery, and we are going to have them either printed or lithographed very soon. Sam, Charlie, and John got into an argument over chemistry, Atlantis, religion, and ghod knows what not, but after waiting until 11:00 and no more members, we decided to leave the Y for the official MFS cafe: The New Elgin. Charlie complained of a cold and was counted out, but the rest argued over "Opposites - React!", Astoundings latest issues, and enjoyed themselves.
