MERCURY _________________________________________ VOL. 1 PACIFICOASTUFF - NO5 _________________________________________ DAWN PLANS COMPLETED! L.A. WELCOMES WILLIAMSON: Oakland, June 18. After hours of figuring and planning the basic plans for DAWN, the moderne annual, were completed. Material rates and basic costs were figured out, and publication date was set for mid-summer, it is hoped that the magazine will be out in time for the Chicago Convention. Ads and material solicited, further detailed items elsewhere in this issue. ====================================== ART NEWS--F.F.M.&F.N. The cover for the next Fantastic Novels will be a colored pen and ink drawing by Paul of Lylda, the interiors will also be by Paul. Miss Gnaedinger says the picture came out fine, the only trouble, if there is any, is in the color medium, which is not Paul's fault. Finlay has done a full page illustration for the short in this issue, "The Dragon Glass", which the editor says is wonderful, and we can easily believe. Finlay has also done the next cover painting for F.F.M., "The Face in the Abyss". Paul may do cover paintings in the future. ====================================== Support the CHICON! Shangri-LA, 17 Jun. Dinner with Jack Williamson was the order of the evening for Charlie Hornig, Ray Bradbury, Morojo, Pogo, Bruce Yerke and 4e Ackermen upon the famous author's arrival in Los Angeles where he plans to stay as long as possibly 2 mos., during which tym he will be an attendant at the Club meetings. After eating, Williamson's welcoming committee & Jack drove to Ack's flat, where the rest entertained themselves with a profusion of material at hand while 4e conducted Jack on a "tour" of his collection. Wmson stated he finds fans very interesting. (WW) ====================================== Palmer fued rages in SPACEWAYS! Harry Warner, Jr. reports that the next issue of his swell mag, Spaceways, will contain several articles and letters on the RAP controversy. All was started by Miske's "Stardust" and Reinsberg's defense. This issue will be out about July Fifth. ====================================== DAMON KNIGHT GRADUATES! Says he will loaf a year then attend an art school. He now has a stf story going the rounds call d "Resilience", we hope it sells! ********************************************************
