8 Egad: #4 (Tiger) Sept 21 Let's have no more of this! I can't stand much more!! "The Army is swell"; "Live in the army is really wonderful" No doubt! But did it make a man of me? (( Note: extremely unlikely! -BT )) I consider myself a personal protge of the Glaroon, and, as such, I am assuredly non-human. Did it make a Tarzan-like Hercules of me? Well, maybe . I weighed 198 lbs when I enlisted on Dec 27, 1941, and I am a mere 195 lbs now. (The improvement is decidedly un-obvious.) Did I end up in the Air Coprs as my papers read? But of course not. I am now in the Signal Corps. Have I been taught Radio as the inducting officer faithfully promised? Don't be silly!#$%?! I work in the supply room !! However, I will say that after nine months in the Army, I am not able to remember everything that wen ton before my induction. A curious problem in Mnemnonics. (( Note: bet he had a dictionary at hand for that one! -BT )) (( Another note: curious-like, we just looked it up and find friend Tiger included one n too many. Yahhhhhh! -BT )) The fact is, I just can't keep the sequences of various occurances straight. But I don't care. However sad the Army may appear at first glance (or from a civilian's viewpoint), I still love it. In a couple od months I'll be able to apply for Officers' Candidate School , (perhaps Chemical Warfare) so I think my Army career is all set. Altho I was in and around New York when Tucker was in town, I had no idea of his visit, at all, so I didn't see him. (( Note: that's funny, we didn't see you either. -BT )) My company was cruelly removed fro the Hotel McAlpin (just 8 blocks from Times Square) and laid down in ----(( sorry, we're eliminating the location ourself to appease censors. -BT)) --- 3 miles from Mitchel Field in Long Island, on June 8th . And here we've been ever since. And here, it seems, we are to stay. The entire company has Class "A" passes, so we can leave the camp anytime we wish. Cute,eh? Oh yes! I was made a P.F.C. the end of August. (From private to private first class to 2nd Lieutenant! Wot'll you bet????) Hyman S. Tiger, PFC #5 (Tullis Hello, everybody. Sept 25 I think this "chain of letters" is a good idea. My wife does too. Don't know what the brass-hats would think; I haven't a sked them. This contribution to Tuckerana will be typed, as is my habit. If that is a vice, it at least makes for legibility. Now that I've mentioned my wife, I want to take this oppertunity to inform such portions of the fan world as may be listening that today is our anniversary; we have been married exactly one month. The wedding took place at the Riverside Church Wedding Chapel, and was followed by a TWA flight to Chicago, with visits there, at Lake Geneva , Wisconsin, and the hometown-- Layfayette, Indiana. Our three days in Wisconsin were spent with the Don Wilcoxes. H writes for Amazing Stories and Fantastic Adventures. You know: those big magazines. (( Readers are forbidden to make cracks at this point! -BT )) I talked to Phil Schumann of Milwaukee, and to your borther an sister, Donn Brazier. (continued overpage)
