15 FAMOUS FANTASY FEMMES DEPT Hola! LeZ presents a gala contest! Identify these fantasy femmes, each and every one from some well-known weird, fantastic or science-fiction story within the reach of the present fan generation. Can you ? Some of these ladies are ridiculously easy to identify---such as our old friend Clarissa; you may find others more difficult, depending upon the range of your reading. But none were included with the deliberate intention of defeating you! These femmes are from the books and magazines within your reach. The point of the game: identify the story (or book) from which the gal springs. You may count ONE POINT for every yarn correctly named. Failing that, give the name oft he author who created the lady. This will count ONE-HALF POINT. Number 24 is blank---insert name and story of a femme not previously mentioned in the list, but who is as well known (at least) as some other name listed. Perfect score is 25; the earliest postdate on your contest entry provides that 25th point. In short: if your entry is mailed earlier than all other contestants, it credits you with one point. We suggest the numbers if you wish--no need to repeat the femme's name. THE AWARDS: highest score receives choice of one of the following: 1) The 4 issues of Astounding containing the serial, "Slan". b) Complete set of Marvel Science Stories (five issues). c) Complete set of Dynamic Science Stories (two issues). d) Complete set of Cosmic Stories (three issues). e) Complete set of Stirring Science Stories (four issues). f) Book: "Cadaver of Gideon Wyck" (new) g) Book: "Sugar in the Air" (new) Next six runners-up receive their choice in their proper order. In case of tie, an amicable decision will be attempted between contestants concerned, and the editor--but here is where that early postdate decides! Shall we join the ladies? 1 Marion 2 Kathleen 3 Harmony 4 Clarissa 5 Lur 6 Granny 7 Vanny 8 Pat Wayland 9 Evalie 10 Morella 11 Dara 12 "Lady Vain" 13 Margaret 14 Clair 15 Suarra 16 Miss Brinklow 17 Lilla 18 Beatrice 19 Lylda 20 Nala Zura 21 Mathaswentha 22 Lakla 23 Nervina 24 --name yours If you are a bright reader you will not need this final tip: not all of these femmes are heroines---not by a long shot! A complete list of the correct "answers" will appear here next issue, along with the winner(s) and runners-up. (( Who says we don't read science-fiction! Down wid de vipers---all hail dear old stf! )) Pleasant memories.
