Diaz-Duque 1324 Muscatine Avenue Iowa City, Iowa 52240 Thursday, July 1, 1995 Dear Mrs Gorman, It was very thoughtful of you to think of me, and send me such a lovely note and the newspaper clipping. This year I've been blessed with the awards, the other being one from the U.S. Surgeon General for my contributions to Hispanic health care. Needless to say, Mary would have been elated, as she was always supportive of all my endeavors. I am now on the faculty of the University of Iowa, but I still work half time as an interpreter at the medical center. There, the name of Mary Martinez is never far from our lips or our thoughts. Dozens of patients continue to remember her and her work continues to inspire us. At graduation time, in May, the University of Iowa created and gave the first
