I stopped on the way to investigate a hole in the rocky hillside and a pretty mossy place; and I paused to watch for a moment, unobserved, a doughboy who was astride an old stone wall intently reading a copy of McClure's. It was evident that he was enjoying life hid in the woods, so I slipped by without disturbing him. It is one thing to look at the valley from up on the hillside and another to look up at the terraced hillside from the level below. Both things are very enjoyable.
