went to market" with my fingers as Jimmy Montgomery talked to us. You can read his good wishes at first hand. While I was at something or other today the quite unrelated idea of little playful things you used to do popped into my head, and it struck me forcefully that I am missing almost entirely the fun of knowing that side of you. It can't be conveyed by letter, of course. I just have to remember it from those delicious times when I knew it. But, oh girl! How I'd like to see more of it! A week of August has gone already. I assume you have spent part or all of it in Cedar Rapids and by this time feel thoroughly acquainted with all your husband's tribe. Have they recognized yet the great honor I brought to the family by inducing you to carry the name? If you could cry on my uniform I'd be happy. Only you wouldn't cry if you could get that close to the uniform, would you. Dearest, I love you, and I don't love anybody else (not with the kind of love that you get), and I want to see you and pet you. Devotedly, Conger.
