139 August 10, 1918. Daphne, honey,-- Resuming from where I was so rudely interrupted -- how are you this morning? I suppose you are not up yet; you never get up before noon. But thas all right; beauty sleep may do something for you. One never can tell. By about now I suppose I should be getting my ears boxed if you were near me. But you're not; I can express my independence in safety. Aren't you furious? Cheer up, child, some day you'll be able to get even. Gosh! How I dread it! I suppose you have noticed that the British have entered the war and, with the aid of the French have hit a smashing good whack east of Amiens. I swear,
