Eh bien, this - to use a striking phrase and one I invent for the occasion - is the end of a turrible day. I've had to work - I have, and nearly all day at that. I know you are not moved a bit. You would sit right there and let me work myself white-headed with not a word against it. Ah, me! Don't mind me, dear,if I talk disjointedly. For two hours tonight I have listened to the ungodliest chatter of Spanish. At one time I thought two of our guests were coming to blows, but I learned finally that they were only having a friendly debate over the questions of whether English is a richer language than Spanish. The one who knows English thought it was. The one who doesn't know a word was sure that could not be possible. When they appealed for my opinion I tactfully agreed with both. I like the sound of Spanish, though. Would that I could speak it. Honey, let's plan to have our six children learn languages when they are children, and learn to talk them. The way modern languages are taught at college is no good. And a person ought to know several if he ever expects to go outside his own country. How do you like my Spanish cigarette?
