148 August 23, 1918. 'Lo Old Dear! The heat wave continues, though perhaps it is not so intense as it was yesterday. As I had nothing very pressing before me this afternoon I early sought the seclusion of my room, which, being on the ground floor, north side of a high stone building is fairly comfortable. With part of my clothes off I have been pretty much at ease while I read home papers and took a wee siesta. Before I go back to work I am starting a letter to you. I've got to talk to you. During the five minutes or so when I was waking up from my siesta I lay looking at your picture. I was
