old to be drafted, but who made no move to volunteer, will have a chance to eat their words. How many time I have thanked the impulse that took me in before there was any draft law at all! As for the folks you speak of who married to save the man from being called, I can't even comprehend by what psychology they acted. I know how folks can marry in spite of war, and sacrifice immediate happiness for the cause. I know how a young wife can be a goddess of liberty in encouraging her husband in his support of country. And I know how that sort of encouragement keeps a soldier steadfast to his duty and all things good. The others, the draft-dodgers may be forced to give up their stolen
