Iowa singer comes home The Register's Iowa News Service CENTERVILLE, IA. -- Simon Estes, the bass-baritone who has performed on the great opera stages of the world, returns to his hometown next weekend. Estes, 44, a graduate of Centerville High School, attended the University of Iowa. He has had more than 75 leading roles in operatic productions. He is scheduled to take part in homecoming activities at the high school Friday afternoon, and evening and will then be honored at a community reception Saturday morning at the Centerville Country Club. He will perform in the high school auditorium at 2 p.m. Sunday. A few tickets, ranging in price from $10 to $15, are available at the high school. Tickets to the reception are $5. Estes is donating $700 to a scholarship fund for Centerville High School graduates. Proceeds from the reception will be used to help match Estes' contribution.
