Subject has renewed subscription to The Daily Worker. Subject wrote letter to editor, Des Moines Tribune, which was published on July 4, 1949, defending the ideals of PAUL ROBESON. Subject reportedly attending Drake University. [ink stamped] G.I.R.- 8 b7C -P*- Bureau File 100-355489. b7C REFERENCE: Report SA [ ] dated 2-3-49 at Omaha DETAILS: AT DES MOINES IOWA b2 b7D On March 2, 1949, [ ] of known reliability, advised that on February 27, 1949, subject attended the evening session of church at the Burns M.E. Church, at Ninth and Crocker Streets, Des Moines, Iowa. Immediately after this church session, EDNA gave a speech advocating the passage of a bill before the Iowa State Legislature, which concerns the Iowa FEPC. There were approximately one hundred twenty in the audience and EDNA encouraged them all to write their representatives and to talk among their friends and to do everything in their power to have this bill passed. She also criticized the NAACP in that way they were not promoting the rights of the negro.
