OM 100-4095 Progressive Party meeting and stated that ROBESON was enthusiastically received. The presents for the subject consisted of donations to the SIMS Appeal Fund relative to the case against SIMS at Sioux City, Iowa. They collected $14.00. It was the contention of the subject and HOWARD that the colored fellow named SIMS had been railroaded in a trial at Sioux City. BATTERSON distributed copies of the Daily Worker, an East Coast daily Communist newspaper, dated October 21, 1949, which contained a story of the conviction of eleven CP leaders in New York. BATTERSON advised that he distributed 5,000 copies of The Worker, a Communist newspaper, in Omaha shortly before this birthday party, [ ] member of the Omaha branch of the CP, was also present. - P E N D I N G- b7C - 3 -
