PAGE 14. Buxton. between them . In the far corner of the pool hall was a bed so I laid down on this bed to rest for it was around 12 o'clock at night. I was aware that a storm was brewing which was not too far distant. I had fallen asleep; but was awaken by terrible noises like a stampeed herd of cattle and explosions and I was sure a tornado had struct the place. I am now in the dark so when some one ran by me I caught him by the coat tail and he took me for a ride through the back door. In the restaurant side women and men ran over top of each other until they got jammed in the doorway trying to get to a safe place. Dick Williams was outside somwhere and got his winchester and same to the pool hall door and shot out the lights and a large portion of plaster off the ceiling. He was so blood thirsty that everything dreaded him like the plague; excep one man who was known as Daddy Red. There was a section of floor that the gamblers used as a dice table. Dick Williams was in the game and was having a run of bad luck so when he would lose a bet he would throw the dice away but Daddy Red came in and saw no dice on the table because Dick will throw them aw and Dad Red remarked (who always carried a a 45 in his belt also) "If Dick throws my dice away he had better run and catch them before they hit the groun and bring them back". I am sure he would have killed anybody else other than Daddy Red by being humiliated and ridiculed. This is the only time I ever saw him back away from trouble.It was Sunday and a day of recreation so Andrew Blakey hitched his horse to his rubber tired buggy and was taking his girl for a ride in the direction of the Sharp End and just before he got there he met his friend leaving. They lived together and were so friendly that they wore each others clothes and when they met there was an argument about some part of their raiment but unfriendly words finally raised their rage high enough to ge to the boiling point; Andrew stuck his friend with his buggy whip,- perhaps more than once so his friend closed in with him and stabbed him to death. The case was tried in Monroe County and at this time I am unable to state the verdict. Kee Kee a young man of 21 was also killed by Bailey Black at the Sha End. All the details could be cheched out by going to the Court House and examining the records in Monroe County Court House. Burney Watknis was going to be a promising young pitcher for the Buxton Wonders Bass Ball Club but was killed in the Monroe County Mercantile store by Massie Huntley with a Shot Gun There was more trouble on the hill side gambling when a fellow named Todd Grabbed Rucker around his neck with one arm; then put his free hand in his pocket and withdrew his knife; then opened the blade with his teeth and proceeded to remove Ruckers heard from his body. I saw the first incision whi seem to be around his neck and I thought for sure that his head was half off but what I really saw was the knife blade that had cut through his jaw into h
