Nov. 26, 1918 My Belovedest, I got your box from the Red Cross yesterday and today I am going to mail it. I don't know whether or not you'll like the pen. I like it as well as any "snub nosed" pen, and because I was not perfectly sure as to your taste I wasn't awfully extravagant in this case. (Excuse the way I'm running down the page, but didn't notice the end of the paper and wrote on the page beneath.) To resume, I didn't go in for fancy gold trimming because I think they are silly, but I expect you will be as independent about your likes and dislikes as I am, and at anytime my selection doesn't please you, you'll not offend me in the least by saying so. I asked Fred's advice in buying the pen and then did just as I pleased anyway. He advised against a self filler saying that the filler wears out. Even so, I'd much rather buy two pens that will do the dirty work themselves than one of the kind that keeps you forever messed up with an
