I spent an hour in a café reading newspapers. I'm finishing the evening in the writing room of the American Officer's club, which the A.R.C. has recently opened, where I'm staying tonight. The room is full of officers writing and reading and playing cards. So I'm not the only well-behaving American in town. I'm a bit lonesome - not for male companionship, which I have deliberately dodged, but for my Wiffles. This town is so full of charm! I want to take you for a walk in wonderful old Place Stanislas. I want to show you the fountain gushing under the light of an arc. And then I want to hold your head on my shoulder and kiss your pretty eyelids to drooping into happy sleep. I long for you, dearest!
