How I stumbled in trying to find the words with which to tell you that I loved you, with which to ask you to marry me! In jest I had proposed to girls as glibly as could be, but when I came to the making of the first proposal in seriousness, the sudden flood of real emotion overwhelmed and confused me. But you understood. Your answer was indirect but it told me the best news I had ever received. I knew from it that you loved me so wonderfully that you were willing to accept me blindly, implicit in your splendid trust and faith in me. I remember the thrills that choked me as you snuggled your head against my shoulder with your arms about my neck as mine were about you. I remember the glory there was in kissing you fervently, lovingly, passionately as I had never kissed before. I remember the delight from your first shy kisses. Your later kisses were more wonderful, but those first ones meant worlds of joy to me. I think you know how I lived in the sky during those days and evenings with you in Nevada. I was in a state of unbelievable happiness, punctuated by moments of desperate fear that such unheard of good fortune could not really be true. Too like a sweet dream it was for me to remember all.
