Fort Madison, Branch of the National Associaion for the Advancement of Colored People Newsletter Ike Smalls Trophy Winner of 1963 March 16, 1964 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 Attention: Fort Madison, Branch Meeting Thursday 8:00 PM, March 19, 1964 First Christian Church Fellowship Hall 608 - 10th St. Attend this meeting,...and please be prompt! The Youth Council sponsored a 'Shamrock' Chili Social which was held on March 14th. The support given the affair was excellent, and appreciated by members of the Youth Council. They would like to express their thanks to those who donated to help them. The youth would especially like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Carter whose home was used for the social! More homes are needed for 'Host' homes in the Home Visit program. Many persons, when first asked about participating, stated that they needed time,...but that they would like to take an active part. 'Time' has passed, and we have no more than those with home the program first started. Since this is a Branch project, it is not fair to place a task which belongs to all of us, on the shoulders of a few. Understanding is of major importance in every type of human relationship, and these visits are an excellent way of braking down the communication barrier which exists in our community. Through the home visits,...this work can be done with a minimum of 'bitterness',...for it usually leaves members of both groups asking themselves questions. How about some volunteers? The District Manager of the Fuller Brush Company has offered a part-time job to anyone from our Branch who wishes to apply. This will later be a full-time job. Therefore, the Fuller Brush Co. is no longer among those on our Selective Buying List. The following stores are on our Selective Buying List...until further notice!!! Woolworths Allens, Inc. The Palms Rashid Rexall Drugs Job opportunities have improved, in this locale, during the past few months. It is not enough, however, to be satisfied with the gains which have been made, but to see that we are qualified for other and better jobs which are available. The 1964 MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN is underway...and our quota should not just be met..., we should and can...surpass it! Workers are needed,...and every member should consider himself a solicitor for memberships for the NAACP. Lets do even more... in '64!
