my sweet way with the children (ahem) and my understanding of them, as well as good discipline in my room (ahem!) I reminded him that he was there only about ten minutes, but he quoted the very figures with which we were working at the board while he was there, to prove that he'd been attentive, so after warning him that he needn't scold me if I didn't turn out well I accepted. Now I have him. If things don't turn out right I can say "I told you so." I am mostly glad of the work, tho it will keep me going. You see Mama leaves the first of next week, so I'll have my mittens full. Tomorrow is Mother's Visiting Day at school so I think I'd better put your wife to bed. She's tired and this has been a bad day. Last night I had to go d - old teacher's meeting and hear a hen talk about "phonics". I wish she'd choke, but she wont. I hate her.
